Why Is Social Media Networking Essential To Our Lives?

In the past couple years, social media has become a popular method for spreading information quickly. Social media usually refers to websites and applications that people can use to connect with other people. Some popular examples include Facebook, where users can friend other users and share photos, their current status, and comment on other users statuses and photos; Twitter, where users post short snippets of information, tweets, that are limited to 140 characters; and blogs, personal websites where users can post entries like an online journal or log. (The name blog itself comes from an abbreviation of web-log.) Social media networking can be a very effective technique.

But why would you want to use the internet to connect with people? After all, you're already surrounded by neighbors, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances. Isn't that enough? But with the web, you have the advantage of reaching out to everyone.

Think about the town or city you live in: if you wanted to sell a product, who could you reach? Maybe you could get the word out to most of your neighbors and close friends, and maybe a couple acquaintances. Maybe you could post an ad in the community center and get a few callers, or you could place a memo in your workplace and get a few interested coworkers. But its so much easier to sell over the web.

Online, you can reach basically everyone who has a computer and an internet connection. Think about it: for example, if you post an offer online on your blog, saying that you want to sell one of your old dresses. Now, someone on the other side of the world could go to Google, the search engine, and type in a term to search the web.

What if they're looking for a dress, and they come upon your offer? They could contact you immediately, pay you over Pay Pal, and you would send them your dress. Easy. And done almost entirely over the internet.

Or, another example: you're on Facebook, chatting with your friends. Looking over your friends profile, you see that one of her friends has commented on your friends profile: Prom is in 3 weeks, she writes, but I cant find a dress that I can afford! You message her with your offer: cheap secondhand dress, pretty but too small for you, still in great quality. Boom. Another transaction made.

That's how the web has the power to connect us all, and online connection is one of many new trends that will ultimately tie us all together. Now that we can forge connections and communicate with people all over the world, we can get so much more done. The digital age is calling, and we can use the internet to our advantage: selling products, advertising services, connecting with new people, expressing ourselves... Nearly everything we do in our lives can be transferred to the web.

And that's why the internet is so important to our futures. As people move more and more of their lives onto the internet, they can conduct their daily business with unheard-of efficiency. Social media networking is the future: come join in!
